Choosing Foods For Your Special Event
By: Arvinder Jeet Singh
Choosing the right menu for a special event can be just as important as choosing a location. Food can communicate a theme, convey a feeling or set the mood of an entire night. If you are planning a high-class extravaganza, hot dogs and beer might not be appropriate. However, they might be the perfect choice for a birthday party at the lake. Taking great care in planning a menu shows your guests how much you appreciate them, and a great meal can help make a special day even more memorable. If you are planning a birthday party for your child, an interactive meal can be a fun activity for your guests. Rather than slaving away in the kitchen all day or spending countless dollars ordering pizzas, you can save time and money by letting the guests make their own special creations. One fun idea is to prepare a multitude of toppings and let the children make their own bagel or English muffin pizzas. They will have a blast piling on strange combinations of toppings, and they will enjoy feeling like grown-ups in the kitchen. For a more formal occasion like a holiday party, finger foods can be great for mingling guests, and they can be great topics of conversation. The obligatory finger sandwich can be spiced up by adding your own special pesto or cheese spread to an already tried and true recipe. Experiment with different ingredients in the weeks prior to the party, and test them out on your family. You will know when you get the reaction you are looking for, and you might end up spending much of the party writing down your recipe for your guests. Planning a menu for a wedding can be quite stressful, especially when you are not sure exactly how many guests will be attending. The rule of thumb is that too much is better than not enough, even if it means having a lot of food left over at the end of the night. You can choose to have a buffet-style dinner, or you can have a set menu for your guests. It is important to consider your guests with special dietary needs. You should have vegetarian and low-sodium alternatives to your main courses, and you should have a heart-healthy menu for those who must avoid foods with high fat contents. Before attempting a large-scale meal, you should make all of the dishes several times to perfect your recipes. Your goal is to have guests asking for more even after it all runs out. Test your creations on a variety of people and make adjustments according to their suggestions. When cooking food from your own recipes, it is important to remember the details of what you did every time you make it. That way you will know what went wrong when something turns out horrible, and more importantly what went right when you receive raving reviews. Planning portions is the most important part of catering your own party. Though most recipes tell you how many people they will feed, it is best to err on the side of caution. If a recipe feeds eight, you might want to count it as six or seven, depending on how many guests you expect. Plan that half of your guests will want to go back for seconds. If you know that one dish will be a favorite, be sure to make extra. Though the green beans may be the healthier option, you can usually bet that the cheesecake will go a lot quicker. Keep in mind that the greater the variety, the more people you will please, so even if you are a steamed vegetable lover, you should probably prepare some beefy options for your less than health conscious guests.

Protect your Skin against Damaging UV Rays by SANDRA PRIOR

Health,Fashion & Cosmetics

How do I Choose a Good Sunscreen?
There are so many different products, textures, ingredients and claims that it can be confusing. Narrow the choice down by insisting on the following four:
An SPF of 15 or More
Dermatologists agree that everyone (even those with dark skin) should follow this rule to be protected from UV damage.
UVA Protection
Sunscreens used to protect skin only against UVB rays, but it's now known that UVA rays also cause damage so make sure you choose a product that screens out both. Look for the UVA symbol or UVA star rating (sometimes on the back of the bottle) - five stars is a guarantee of the highest protection possible.
Photostability
This ensures UV filters won't break down in the sun.
Water Resistance
When you swim, water-ski and snorkel, you need a sunscreen that stays put.
How are Sunscreens Rated?
The European Commission has introduced new laws to standardize sunscreen labeling by 2009. They classify sunscreens like this:
Low protection = SPF6 - 14; Medium protection = SPF15 - 29; High protection = SPF30 - 49; Very high protection = SPF50+. You should never choose a sunscreen with an SPF of less than 15. To play it safe, go higher.
Why are Sunscreens so Expensive?
The price of sunscreens reflects the fact that costly research is constantly being done to improve their effectiveness in shielding skin from UV light. Many of us accept the importance of buying the best possible moisturizers for our faces to delay visible ageing. But given that about 80% of this ageing is the result of UV exposure, an even better way to keep skin looking young is to invest in good sunscreens.
A recent survey by the British Association of Dermatologists showed that most women think the best regime for keeping their skin looking young is applying moisturizer daily, eating a healthy diet and drinking eight glasses of water a day. While these are important, they do not have the same anti-ageing impact that sun protection does.
If there's one category of skincare that I would urge people to spend money on, it's good-quality sun protection.
Is there a Facial Sunscreen that won’t give me Spots?
New technologies mean there are now sunscreens for different skin types, as is the case with moisturizers. If you have oily skin, try a non-pore-blocking one.
If Sunscreens are now so Good, Why isn’t it Safe to be out in the Sun for as Long as you Like?
Even if you apply a sunscreen with both UVA and UVB filters - and apply it well, making sure you don't miss any patches of skin - you are not completely shielded from UV rays. This means you are not completely safeguarded against skin cancer.
Many ingredients in sunscreens do not survive exposure to the sun indefinitely, it is recommended you reapply more every hour and whenever you've swum. There are many reasons to be diligent about this. Need a reminder? Sun is skin's number-one enemy - it causes premature ageing, hyper-pigmentation, capillary damage, skin thickening and, worst of all, cell trauma resulting in permanent damage that can lead to skin cancer.
Should I use a Sun Bed before my holiday to give myself a Base Tan?
Never risk a sun bed. The health risks are very serious. Many people think a 'base tan' will offer protection when they first go out in the sun, but it offers hardly any. At the most, you could think of it as equivalent to an SPF2 or SPF4.
And what little protection it does offer will be outweighed by the damage done on a sun bed. Its intense burst of UV light will damage and age your skin faster than any amount of natural sunlight. Using sun beds before the age of 35 increases your risk of developing skin cancer by 75%. Given there are now all sorts of great fake tans around, there is even less reason to risk a sun bed.
What's the Best Sun Lotion for People with Sensitive Skin?
Choose a sunscreen specially formulated for sensitive skin but, even then, always try a new cream on a small area first. Every case of reactive skin is different.
There's no History of Skin Cancer in my Family, so Why Should I Worry?
The number of cases of skin cancer, the second most common cancer among 20-to 39-year-olds, is increasing faster than any other cancer. Skin cancer is now so common we should be checking our skin for worrying moles as regularly as we check our breasts for lumps. Melanoma (the most deadly form of skin cancer) appears most often on the legs, so pay extra attention to them. If you find anything worrying, ask your doctor or dermatologist to check it for you.
What's the Latest Development in Sun Protection?
Studies have shown that wearing even a high SPF doesn't significantly reduce the amount of free-radical damage caused by exposure to the sun. This is why antioxidants are now being added to sunscreens. They 'mop up' the free radicals triggered by the sun and so help to prevent skin damage. Look for sunscreen labels that offer 'added antioxidants', especially vitamins A, C and E, and green and white tea. In March 2009, Clinique is launching a reformulated sun-protection range containing state-of-the-art antioxidants as well as UVA and UVB filters.
Is it Okay to Use the Sunscreen I have Left over from Last Summer?
Generally, a product will work for two-and-a-half years - if it's been correctly stored. If it's been kept out of direct light with the lid shut properly, it should be fine. But if it smells odd, throw it out.
Does anyone Really Need an SPF of More than 30?
In most cases, an SPF of between 15 and 30 is adequate. But use a higher SPF if you don't want to keep reapplying cream or when that's impractical to do, for instance when you're snorkeling.
Another reason for applying a higher SPF is to allow for the fact that you may not be applying it as well as you should. The reason many dermatologists recommend a high SPF is that most people don't apply sunscreen properly. The biggest problem is not using enough - which effectively means you may be reducing the protection by as much as two-thirds. Sunscreen should be applied liberally. As a rough guide, you need to use, at the very least, 30ml - about six teaspoons - of lotion to cover an average-sized adult body.
Your Holiday Tan Plan
Here's how to get to the beach ready to show off your bikini, tan safely while you're there and keep your color glowing after you're back from holiday.
Before you Go
If you are Fair-Skinned, use a self-tan so you look golden when you strip down to your bikini for the first time. This will also make you less likely to overdo sun exposure in the first few days and get burnt.
Stock up on Sun Cream
You'll get through a bottle every three to four days if you apply it correctly, so pack plenty.
On Holiday
Avoid the Midday Sun
You know the drill: don't go in the sun between noon and 3pm, when it's at its fiercest.
Don’t forget your Hot Spots
The nose, ears and lips are prime targets for sunburn. Sunscreen sticks are good to use on these areas.
Keep it up
Top up sunscreen throughout the day
Wear a Hat and Big Sunglasses
Ideally, you should keep your face out of the sun completely and use bronzer to make it match your tan.
You can still enjoy the sun on you body without ageing your face five years every summer.
Wear Black
Skin experts reckon that black - although warmer to wear in the sun - offers skin better protection from the sun than white fabrics do.
Eat Healthy
There is strong evidence that a diet rich in antioxidants can help prevent the free-radical damage caused by sun exposure. This means eating lots of brightly colored fruits and vegetables. The best are carrots, tomato, apricots and green leafy vegetables, because they are rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A), which gives the most skin protection.
Use After-Sun Products
They will rehydrate skin and help prevent peeling. Many will enhance your tan, too.

Would you drink vending machine coffee? by EBENEZER HENG

Consumer,Electronics,Food & Beverages

Drinking vending machine coffee to most you would be probably once in a blue moon sort of thing. You would only drink it, if there are no other choices. You would never drink it as though you are drinking latte from Starbucks.
But, do you know that vending machine coffee has poured in more R&D dollars than any of the specialty or gourmet coffee roasters in the world? Take you local coffee roaster as an example, how much R&D do you think he would invest in his coffee.
Your local coffee roaster probably has his own group of loyal followers due to the unique way he roast and some blends which he has came out with. That I believed is all his R&D. I do not think he has a research lab and definitely do not think he is in talks with the local health authority.
Vending machine coffee on the other hand has to come out with a process that not only ensures that the coffee can last in the machines, taste good after a certain period of time, due to increase competition, it also has to ensure that the coffee dispense has a strong aroma with good taste.
To deliver all these, requires a R&D spend of anything between 1-5 million dollars. And as this is highly processed coffee, it would need the local food science authority giving it the green light before it can be sold in the market.
And getting the approval from the authority meant spending some more money on testing and getting the relevant certificates. So, on this process, at least the company would have to spend another 0.5-1 million dollars.
Therefore, in order to serve you the consumers, coffee from the vending machine, companies have to spend millions of dollars getting it ready. Do you think your local roasters would spend this much on the coffee sold to you?
Then, the machines have a person servicing it daily to ensure that its quality is being maintained and there is adequate stock. This ensures that the vending machine is in tip top condition when dispensing your coffee.
On the other hand, would you even know if the coffee maker that is brewing your coffee in the local shop is cleaned daily?
Of course, what I am comparing are the variables that contribute to the overall taste in a cup of coffee. Coffee shops definitely has the ability to brew a great cup of coffee, but this is does not mean to say that vending machine coffee is of a lower grade.
It might be freeze dried, but that does not mean lower quality. The fact is, if you factored in the health issue, and the consistent quality, vending grade coffee can be consider to be a better product than your local roasted coffee!
Personally, I would drink from this vending grade coffee and would enjoy it knowing that it has passed through many hands in order to make it safe for me to enjoy. So, what about you, would you drink it?

Energy efficient tumble dryers by GLYN BOOTH

Electronics

According to recent research, it seems that nearly sixty percent of the household in the United Kingdom actually own a tumble dryer, which mean that around fourteen million households use electricity to dry their clothes when they could just hang them outside or inside therefore saving a lot of energy! Apparently, using a standard dryer means that you would use around 4KWh of energy and produce around 1.8 kg of CO2. Even if drying your clothes outside is particularly difficult in the United Kingdom with so few sunny and dry days. There are currently three types of tumble dryers used in the United Kingdom which are the electric venting tumble dryer, the electric condensing and finally the gas tumble dryer. It seems that the most energy efficient one is actually the gas tumble dryer. Sadly though only few of those are being produced and sold here. For information, a condenser tumble dryer will collect water and you will then have to empty it, whereas a vented tumble dryer will have a hose that leads the hot air out of the home and need to be connected to an outlet in the wall with a vent installed on it.
Another way of saving energy is for example to buy tumble dryer spare parts like Bosch spares or Hotpoint spares when your tumble dryer is broken. By doing so you will not have to buy another tumble dryer and the life of yours will improve.
Whereas finding energy efficient fridges is becoming very easy, just as well as getting fridge spares like white knight spares or others, tumble dryers are not that good when it comes to energy saving and a lot of them tend to be in the C rating or even lower instead of A or B. Interestingly, an A+ fridge used for twenty four hours a day will produce around 116 kg of CO2 but an A rated tumble drier used three times a week will generate around 160kg of CO2 per year, which is pretty high.
It is very important nowadays to consider the impact on the environment your appliances will have, so make sure you check everything before buying a tumble dryer, a fridge or anything else. A lot of those appliances can now be bought online and websites usually provide a lot of information. On top of that, a lot of appliances usually have plenty of different programmes with some of them being more energy efficient than others.

The Importance of Automotive Diagnostic Equipments by PATTRICK SAVARNA

Consumer,Electronics,Science & Technology

The automotive diagnostic equipments are important tools to analyze and diagnose automobiles. These equipments help to check the unavoidable irregularities and dysfunctions which persist in automobiles while being used. Thus the repairing is done on the basis of the detection of faults done by these equipments.
As the automobile industry is one of the most developing and dynamic industries, it has always invited continuous technological improvements in the field of automotive diagnostic equipments. The computerized automotive diagnostic equipments and laser based vehicle engine analyzers are few of the startling examples.
Apart from repairing purposes, these automotive diagnostic equipments are also used in automobile industry on a large scale. These highly optimized equipments ensure an all-fit automobile when all the parts are installed on the assembly lines.
For example ; a dynamometer is used to detect the problems in a troubling engine. It is basically used to find out the faults related to engine's torque and its rotational speed. The other diagnostic equipment is a vehicle emission testing equipment. It finds out the excess of emission that is caused by leaks in automobiles.
Almost all automotive shops, as we can see, keep automobile or vehicle engine analyzers. A diagnostic equipment like this has the capability to detect and trace the problems and faults in more than one engines at a single time.
An automobile engine analyzer is one of the most efficient automotive diagnostic equipments. Its detection and diagnostic ability is well proven and recommended by many. It can find out the trouble zones at an electric speed thus we can save enough time.
As these testing and measuring equipments are extremely upgraded in terms of technology, these are bound to come at not easily affordable prices. These diagnostic equipments tend to be highly expensive. Thus it needs enough of care while investing in such equipments. One may fall prey to below standard equipments.

GPS Makes A Wonderful Christmas Gift by STEVEN LANCEY

Communication,Electronics,Science & Technology

Do you or someone you know have difficulties finding directions in a strange place? If so, giving the gift of GPS for Christmas could be the answer to your prayers.
GPS (Global Positioning System) is an operational navigational system that utilizes navigational satellites that orbit the Earth. In other words, it tracks a persons location or provides directions, all by using an existing satellite system. GPS units also have the ability of providing real time reference on earth, or within its orbit.
The satellite navigation system was first invented and used by the USA's Department of the Defense. Later, the system was adopted for use by foreign countries including Europe (Galileo) and Russia (GLONASS). Today in the United States, any US citizen may use the navigational system, absolutely free.
The satellite navigational system is primarily divided into three segments:
A- Space: As the name suggests, the space segment works from outer space. It operates through a GPS satellite constellation, located in an Intermediate Circular Orbit.
B-Control: The control segment of a satellite navigational system is comprised entirely of control stations that are located on earth. These terrestrial control stations are scattered at locations around the world. These control the flight paths of the various GPS satellites, and synchronize the atomic clocks in the satellite. Ground stations also monitor the uploading of data through the satellite transmissions.
C- User: The satellite navigational system is mainly made up of civilian and military GPS receivers.
GPS is technically comprised of 24 satellites, the minimum number of satellites in a constellation. These satellites orbit around six orbital planes, twice in every twenty-four hour period. Each satellite carries an atomic clock, which continuously transmits precise time to the ground observatories located in the Earth. In addition, the satellites send electronic messages to the Earth. These messages may include data on precise time based upon the on-board satellite clocks, or information on their own orbital systems.
It's not necessary for the user to be equipped with the precise clock, however a good short term clock may be required in order to receive the satellite transmissions best used in determining the exact location on Earth. Different satellites employ various sequencing modes, allowing the transmission of messages to be received by the user from satellites using similar frequencies.
The primary GPS system was created to provide control over the military forces in the United States. This allowed for improved command capability, as well as the targeting and manipulation of missiles, smart bombs and other forms of ammunition. The satellites are also able to detect nuclear detonators.
Civilian users can also access the GPS system through their GPS receivers and GPS system software. Many cities in highly urbanized countries have improved the lives of their citizens where access is available to the free worldwide GPS Standard Positioning Service. The transportation sector has greatly benefited from the system, as many planes, ships and cars employ GPS systems for navigation. Hikers, glider pilots, mine truck drivers and everyday travelers enjoy access to the GPS system through low cost GPS receivers, ranging in price from $100 to $200. GPS receivers that are more precise are widely used by land surveyors for measuring land surface area, locating boundaries and surveying markers.
Time code generators also depend on the GPS system to acquire accurate time for precisely recording events in real time. Developers are also working on specially created GPS systems that will help visually impaired individuals.
Another, more trendy use of GPS receivers is the widely popular hobby of Geocaching. Children and adults use hand held GPS receivers to navigate designated sites and locate hidden objects. There are numerous Geocaches hidden all over the world, with coordinates available on Geocaching websites.
The GPS system has brought both enthusiasm and easiness to the lives of people all over the globe. Despite the complexity of the system, anyone with a GPS receiver can use the service, free of charge. So from now on you will have no excuse for getting lost.

The hot holiday item for your teenager: a prepaid phone by COOPER LANG

Electronics,Communication,Science & Technology

The hot holiday item for your teenager: a prepaid phone
Here's a question that perplexed my parents for a number of years: What should I get my teenage kid for the holidays? Kids can change their minds on a whim, so what's hot one day can be extinguished the next. The one thing they will universally enjoy, though, is a killer cell phone -- especially if they have an old one and have been begging for something new. Here we'll take a look at some of the hottest prepaid phones this holiday season.
Virgin Mobile Shuttle Virgin Mobile made a big move in 2008 by acquiring Helio, a cell phone company that fell onto hard times. Along with this deal they acquired not only Helio's impressive handset lineup, including the acclaimed Ocean, but it also horned in on Helio's MVNO agreement with Sprint. This meant true EVDO data speeds for Virgin. Their first handset to offer these speeds is the Shuttle.
It's a slider phone that takes Virgin's data services to the next level. You can download music, wallpaper, and ringtones with speed never before available from Virgin. The phone also features a music player, the first Virgin phone to do so since the Slider Sonic. Like most other phones of its ilk, it features a camera, 1.3 megapixels, and Bluetooth.
As of this writing the Shuttle is available exclusively at Best Buy. It could be available on Virgin's website any time now.
Available from: Virgin Mobile USA.
Samsung Messager The first phone with a full QWERTY keyboard on our list is the Samsung Messager. This one has the added advantage of having the traditional 12-key dial pad on the outside, while sliding out to reveal a real keyboard. Like the Shuttle above, the Messager has an MP3 player with removable memory, Bluetooth, and a camera, this one checking in at 1.3 megapixels.
The biggest difference between other slider QWERTYs and the Messager, I think, is the width of the keyboard. With many the keyboard wasn't as wide, but this keyboard stretches the entire height of the phone, which can be a bit cumbersome. Still, it's hard to underestimate the keyboard. Cricket, one of the carriers with the Messager, has issued a model from NBA star Greg Oden.
Available from: Cricket Wireless.
LG Rumor The Rumor is essentially just like the Samsung Messager, except on a different carrier. In fact, the carrier might be the reason to buy this phone. It's on kajeet, which is a carrier dedicated to kids between the ages of 8 and 15. They offer services like GPS tracking and parental controls, so parents have a say in who their child calls and where they can go with the phone.
Like the other phones on this list, the Rumor has a built-in MP3 player with expandable memory, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and Bluetooth. If you have a younger kit and prefer kajeet's service, this might be the one for you.
Available from: kajeet.

.Learn to Earn Extra Money at Home

Many people are looking to alternate methods to make additional income. A great place to supplement your income is right at home with your internet connection. You can make some extra money at home by selling other peoples products. This is called Affiliate Marketing. The best way to learn to earn extra money at home is from someone who is already doing it. Some one who has ironed out the wrinkles so to speak. Better yet, why not learn from someone who actually makes a full time living and then some at affiliate marketing. In the internet marketing business these are called Super Affiliates! There are many online promoters who will teach you all the steps you will need to accomplish to earn extra money at home but most of them will never give you all the pieces to the puzzle. Most will try to make you their personal cash cow, charging you for small chunks of information at a time never fully divulging all the methods you need to learn at one time. So what is a person who wants to earn extra money at home to do?If you wanted to be a doctor, nurse, teacher or any other professional what would you do? You would have to take some college classes, of course. Less intense professions would require less intense courses that might even be found at a local community college and not cost so much to take. Some college courses can be even taken online. I know this for a fact since my daughter is doing this currently. Why not learn to earn extra money at home by taking an online course. It is the perfect solution. There are some very good ones out there. I can personally think of three myself. The beauty of these online courses is that you can progress at your own pace and they are a lot cheaper than going to college. Most of these types of courses are membership sites. You will be charged a monthly membership fee as long as you stay. $50 - $100 per month is what you will need to get involved in a quality course. Here is a couple of tips.Be sure to use a course that will also accept you as an affiliate. Most will give you 50% commissions for referrals. You can then use the techniques you learn in the course to sign up others and after 2 or 3 sign-ups your membership will be free.If you have a high speed internet connection use a course that teaches using video. You will progress faster than by just learning from written material. One course I use has HD Video content that you can download to your computer or watch online. This lets me learn even when I don't have a high speed connection.Would you like to use your computer to earn extra money at home and become the next Super Affiliate? I thought so.

What is a diamond? by ANDREW STRATTON
Fashion & Cosmetics

The diamonds on the market today were formed millions of years ago. Carbon exposed to heat and pressure deep beneath the earth's surface are what created the dazzling diamond eternity bands you want as your wedding rings.
When choosing the right one, you need to look at the color, cut, clarity, carat and certification of the gemstone. The cut refers to the shape which is typically round, marquise, pear, emerald cut princess cut. A round solitaire engagement ring is classic, but more and more brides are opting for the fancier cuts of the rectangular emerald cut and square princess cut.
They also look great with colored gemstones as accents. A pair of ruby and diamond hoop earrings is dazzling, offering a burst of color.
Where do they from? South Africa is a main supplier of diamonds. Mines are located in Zaire, Botswana, Namibia and Angola. Other locations include Australia and Russia. The oldest mines were in India, but that was about 4000 years ago. The modern suppliers were discovered and mining began in the 1800s.
Birthstone for April Every month gets a gemstone and April is the lucky girl that gets the diamond. Most people love their own birthstone and wouldn't admit it, but they are probably a little bit of envious of the April babies. Now if you are looking for a unique birthstone gift or something for yourself, these gems come in all kinds of fashion settings. Diamond flower earrings go with anything, and, if you really want something different, how about a diamond toe ring. Fresh, huh?
Couples celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary can commemorate the day with these dazzling gems. 60 years of marriage certainly deserves diamond eternity bands.
Magic and Lore These shimmering stones are believed to enhance your sexual prowess, bestow power and increase vitality of the wearer. In the middle ages, they removed fear and made the wearer invincible. Your white gold diamond earrings are probably not going to make you invincible, but you can sure feel like it when you wear them. The gems are also supposed to bring luck and success. Of course, if you are wearing them, you probably are a success.
Care and Maintenance The hardest mineral on the Mohs scale, these gems have a rank of 10. So, they really do last a lifetime. To clean, let them soak in jewelry cleaner, ammonia or soap. You can also drop them in the ultrasonic cleaner. They can pretty much take whatever you throw at them. Just because they are the strongest mineral doesn't mean that they can't chip or crack if you try hard enough.
So, don't hide them in the jewelry box, saving them for a special occasion. These dazzling gems are meant to be worn and because of their durability, they can be worn every day. With all the choices in cut and types of settings, these shimmering stones can be worn as a fashion piece or you can wear diamond earrings on a special occasion. Whatever you do, wear them!
Women crave dazzling diamond eternity bands as their wedding rings. A round solitaire engagement diamond ring. is classic, but more and more brides are opting for the fancier cuts such as the rectangular emerald cut and square princess cut. Visit www.gemaffair.com.

Kinds of Company Thefts and How to Avoid Them by SALOMEA CHMIELEWSKI

Even before the financial overturn happened in Wall Street this year, there had already been several losses that American companies have been reporting about. These losses are no joke and pose greater risks because of the figures that are not just on the level of thousands but of billions and a timeframe of a year. If today’s financial problem has been rooted to a more complicated issues on economic policies and other international investment disparagements, the older problem is rooted on the premise of internal embezzlement of none other than the companies’ employees. Yes. Sad to accept but American businesses have been ailing for quite some 40 billion dollars of losses caused by company theft and other embezzlements. Though this problem might seem to be a parody of the employers or a complete exaggeration to front the government of tax evasion, this has never erased the fact that the problem in employment theft is a reality and is really destructive.
In a survey posted at Inquest’s website, 30% of failures in the businesses in the land is said to be the end product of large and small scale company theft and dishonesty. Almost all types of businesses in America experience the same fate. Most of the time, companies with most losses are those which has something to do with merchandising and direct selling. Critically, the country is loosing honest employees or is just being tolerated by ignorance of the employers.
Almost all establishments in the US these days are already equipped with high end surveillance systems. Almost every corner of the office, store, or even outside premise of a company is installed with cameras that monitors every move of employees and clients alike. These systems are said to have been installed in order to avoid any theft that can happen both internally and externally. However, surveillance systems are not the only way to solve this classic problem. Same website suggested that if all companies take it by heart to conduct background checks on all their employees and applicants, the number of incidents can be lowered.
However, how can an employee rob a company? What are the kinds or thefts that an employee can do to a particularly company? Basically, there are so many ways in which an employee can take advantage of the company illegally.
1. Falsifying Receipts – Most of the time, receipts are not computer generated. These are often hand printed. Dishonest clerks can forge receipts and charge a client of a higher price and have the difference kept in the employee’s pocket.
2. Stealing Merchandise – this is the most common theft that can happen in a store. Often, stolen products are those small and easy to keep ones. There are so many ways on how an employee may steal merchandise out of the store.
3. Cash Theft – this happens mostly to cashiers or those employees that receives payments. Especially to those that has no specific recording system, services or products can be sold without undergoing on a process. 4. Bookkeeping Fraud – receipts are very important in auditing. So there are times that in order for employees to get something from the company illegally, they would hide in receipts and declare a forged amount on the record.
5. Fake Purchases – employees may intentionally buy things and had it reflected on the record but the purchase did not actually happened. Or they can create imaginary suppliers which are actually just them.
Background check reports basically lay off a limit to these types of employees before they can be accepted to the company. The past records of a particular employee will tell you whether he/she is worthy of trust or not. Pre-employment checks are an effective way to save a company’s future. This is a solution that literally said as saving billions with 30 bucks.

How Vested Interest in Selling Pharmaceutical Drugs May be Having an Adverse Affect on Your Health
Author:
Paul Phillips

The major contributor to the big picture of health is the pharmaceutical company's research and development (R&D, where the making of new drugs begins. There are other research institutions outside of pharmaceutical companies, such as universities. The drug companies however, fund many of these. In spite of all the clinical trials that go on, it is worth remembering it was reported that 106,000 died from adverse drug side effects prescribed by doctors on the advice of pharmaceutical companies in the USA. That, of course, doesn't even take into consideration the numbers that were made ill and lived, or the unreported incidents. The public at large have no idea how a new drug therapy can be made in R&D and get through trials in a somewhat uncritical manner. We have already seen how vested commercial interest has swayed the outcome when it comes to academia. It also extends to R&D and much further, as I will explain. From a study, made by Dr E.G Campbell et. al. it was found that advisory panels, which comprise the Institutional Revue Boards, are made up of individuals from medical faculties. Half of the advisors were consultants to pharmaceutical companies. Because of these connections, it was feared that decisions regarding post-clinical trials would be biased in favour of commercialism rather than care.Following this, 'Health Daily News' released a news report. This was the follow up to the above study from its main author Doctor E.G Campbell who was quoted in the periodical saying: "Our revious research with faculty has shown us that heavy ties to industry can affect scientific behaviour, leading to such things as trade secrecy and delays in publishing research. It is impossible to say that similar relationships with companies could effect IRB members' activities and attitudes."Considering the above, ABC news came up with some very interesting revelations from a survey on clinical drug trials:It was found that if a non-pharmaceutical company funded a trial, then there would be a 50% chance of the results being considered favourable, while a pharmaceutical company would favour 90% of the results.-Clearly this shows self-interest is operating. If clinical trials have so much at stake commercially, where self-interest can affect good science and override public protection then this questions the moral integrity of certain individuals and hinders the progress of health.Over the recent years, governments have cut down on funding academia and research institutions. -Big Pharma steps in, with its forever increasing funding. For example, the drug industry gave two hundred and ninety two million dollars in 1981 and over two billion in 1991...not out of the goodness of its heart of course, but because of the control it could exert over these bodies.

Effective Acne Scar Removal Methods
By: Lesley Lyon
Our body texture is very much delicate as any damage or injury to it might cause the formation of scar, which looks very odd. The scar totally depends on the depth, size, location or incision of the injury and is also on the factors such as age, heredity, sex etc. as all these will influence the skins reaction.Individual with the acne scars can get to know the treatment from a dermatologist. Normally, scar removal or smoothing can be done in different methods depending on the criteria such as the person's age, health condition and severity of the acne. The seriousness of scarring will be more if the person is suffering from severe acne, as this type of acne will leave a permanent scar compared to other types of acne say mild and moderate. So to avoid acne scars, it is better to get treatment immediately when the acne appears, rather than postponing the treatment till the acne becomes severe.Removal of acne scar is treated in different ways which are as follows: Dermabrasion, Laser Resurfacing, Chemical Peels, Punch Techniques and Augmentation. These treatments are different from each other on price as well as effect. So the treatment is purely based on the acne and it differs from person to person.Dermabrasion is the process where the top layers of the skin will be removed with an abrasive instrument similar to an electric sander. This method leaves the skin red, but after the scar is treated the skin will have smoother and healthier appearance. Laser Resurfacing is now becoming popular and the doctors also recommend for the same, because of the lasting effects and minimal recurrence of the problem areas. Through this treatment, the damaged skin will be handled carefully by moving in small strokes by using a high-energy light.Chemical peels are commonly used by doctors and patients when the acne scar is not severe. A chemical is applied to the skin where the acne scar is affected and left there for a few minutes. It is a peel of chemical which helps remove the top layer of the skin and later it allows for regeneration of new and healthier skin.Punch Technique is a method of removing scars by taking a small portion of skin from one part of the body and transplanting it to the scar area. The portion of skin tissue purely depends upon the amount required and it will be taken from the inner part of the thigh.Augmentation will help raise the crater-like scars, when the injection is given under an acne scar which has been formed by severe acne. Collagen is a temporary treatment which has to be repeated on a regular basis in case the scar is not deep and it can be injected below the skin to replace the damaged cells and pores. To decide on an acne scar treatment an individual has to consider the money part, long and the short term reactions about scar removal from a dermatologist. After all, the acne scars cannot be removed completely and having the same skin texture like before is not possible, but it is apparent that treatments will make the scar substantially reduced.Visit http://www.healinginstitute.info for tackling all acne related problems. FUNCTIONS OF VITAMIN C

Functions of Vitamin C, Vitamin C Overdose and Deficiency

also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin which is essential for normal functioning of the body. Unlike most mammals, humans don't have the ability to make their own vitamin C. We must therefore obtain vitamin C through our diet

.Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that is included in a range of skin care

preparations ranging from toners and cleansers to serums, moisturizers and eye creams. It can deliver a range of benefits to skin. Skin care specialists recommend the inclusion of antioxidants in your skin care routine and Vitamin C is one that not only delivers, but that also has significant clinical research to back up its efficacy.Vitamin C plays a vital rule in producing collagen, the key protein in the body's connective tissue including our cartilage, ligaments, and bones. As many skin cream ads say, collagen also controls our skin's elasticity and strength. Without enough collagen, our tissues become so feeble and damaged, that we develop a condition known as Scurvy. Although this condition can be fatal, you're unlikely to develop it with a modern diet. Some of the more common signs of mild Vitamin C Deficiency include weakness, lassitude, swollen gums, nosebleeds and scurvy. Possible reasons which can result in this deficiency include inadequate diet, alcoholism and homelessness. There are some other risk factors which can ultimately result in Vitamin C Deficiency. Babies borne from women who take higher levels of Vitamin C during late pregnancy are two to three times more likely to develop wheezing when they reach two years of age.The use of vitamin C in the prevention/treatment of the common cold and respiratory infections remains controversial, with ongoing research. For cold prevention , more than 30 clinical trials including over 10,000 participants have examined the effects of taking daily vitamin C. Overall, no significant reduction in the risk of developing colds has been observed. Higher levels of Vitamin C are needed when under environmental stress such as trauma, fever or infection. Full saturation is reached with daily intakes of 200-500 mg per day (in 2-3 divided doses). This is a water-soluble protein, and anything in excess is excreted by the body. Vitamin C Overdose can cause diarrhea, gas, or stomach upset. Other side effects could be stomach cramps, nausea, and diarrhea, and an increased risk of developing kidney stones.During the therapeutic use of this vitamin, the dosage is usually increased significantly, but the toxicity level must be kept in mind. The average (Recommended dietary allowance) RDA is 60-80mg, per day. For adolescents it is 80 mg, 75 mg for adults, 100 mg during pregnancy and 150 mg during lactation.

Herbal Solutions for Panic Attacks by: Mary Ann Copson

If you have ever had a panic attack, you don't look forward to another one. The "fight-or flight" response in your body is involuntarily turned on and your nervous system signals your adrenal glands to start pumping out stress hormones to get you ready to either run away or turn and fight. Your muscles tense, your heartbeat speeds up, and your breathing becomes more rapid. You might feel like you are smothering, claustrophobic or you may experience an urgency to get away. On top of that, you may get hot flashes, sweating, and/or chills and trembling, plus numbness, tingling sensations, dizziness, and nausea. You become overwhelmed by an extreme sense of fear and impending disaster and you lose your ability to think calmly and clearly while experiencing a distorted sense of time and a feeling of unreality. In the face of a physical threat, accident, or natural disaster, this type of response is normal and can be life-saving. But panic attacks that occur unexpectedly in the presence of normal events can be debilitating. They may happen with no forewarning, at any time of the day or night, and last several seconds or more than half an hour. The triggers for panic attacks are unpredictable. Most panic attacks are set off by some minor or major stressor. But panic attacks also can be triggered by changes in emotions, or as a response to certain drugs, foods, allergies (including hidden food allergies), hypoglycemia, and illnesses. A panic attack is an example of an acute anxiety disorder and can affect teens to middle-agers and beyond. Women are reported to experience panic attacks twice as often as men but some believe that is only because men are more reticent to report panic attacks. Recent studies point to a complex set of causes and panic attacks are regarded as a treatable psychobiological condition (i.e. having both psychological and biological causes). Successful resolution of panic attacks requires an integrated, multi-modality approach. Even though panic attacks are not a simple condition and there are no simple answers for their successful resolution, herbal therapy can be useful as part of an integrated, multi-modality approach. When you experience anxiety, your body releases a set of neurotransmitters called catecholamines, which stimulate your central nervous system and activate your sympathetic nervous system. Sometimes your sympathetic nervous system (the high alert part of your nervous system) can get stuck in the “on” mode leaving you in an ongoing state of anxiety - a fertile ground for panic attacks. A class of herbs called nervines helps to turn off the sympathetic nervous system by gently facilitating the functioning of the parasympathetic nervous system – the part of the nervous system that prompts relaxation - helping us to wind down and come off “high alert”. It is a good idea to experiment with different anti-anxiety herbs before you are in a crisis or panic situation. Try out several herbs in varying doses. Start with a low dose and increase if needed so that you will know how the herb affects you and how to use it when you need it. Some effective herbal nervines to consider using: Oatstraw (Avena sativa) – the green milky tops of oatstraw provide a wonderful soothing, nourishing and gentle herb for frayed and stressed nervous systems. Oatstraw has a restorative effect on an exhausted nervous system reliably strengthening the whole nervous system after prolong stress. Oatstraw has both an immediate effect (useful when experiencing extreme nervousness and anxiety) and a more long-term restorative effect. Oatstraw is well tolerated by even highly sensitive people and is used for nervous debility, stress, weak nerve and energy force, anxiety, depression, exhaustion, and general fatigue. German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla/ Matricaria recutita) – an all time favorite –because it works. Chamomile tones the nervous system, relaxes your muscles and calms nervous digestion. It has mild sedating properties and is not as strong an herbal sedative as valerian or passionflower. However, chamomile is a great option for anxiety in children or teens and for anxiety associated with mild sleep problems. If you are allergic to ragweed, asters, or chrysanthemums you are better off choosing another anti-anxiety herb. Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) –has mild sedative properties and is useful in conditions of nervous agitation with sleep problems and digestive complaints. Lemon balm is especially useful for over-anxiety that causes digestive problems such as nausea, bloating, and colic like pains. Traditionally lemon balm was used to lift the spirits and encourage longevity. Lemon balm is a relaxing tonic for anxiety, restlessness, irritability, and mild depression and its actions will quiet the racing heart that often accompanies anxiety. It has mild anti-thyroid effects and is best avoided by people with hypothyroid problems. Skullcap (Scutellaria laterifolia) –tonifies and relaxes the nervous system and is useful for anxiety of all types especially anxiety and irritability that is hormonally based such as premenstrual syndrome. It is a sedative nervine and has mild anti-spasmodic and anti-hypertensive effects. Skullcap is a great herb to use when your anxiety is accompanied by a runaway mind that is stuck on worry. It is tolerated well by most people and has few side effects. Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) – one of the most well known anti-anxiety herbs, valerian is a potent herb whose active ingredients, valepotriates, bind to benzodiazepine receptors in the brain (similarly to the drug Valium). The use of valerian does not, however, result in dependence or the development of tolerance but instead tones the nervous system. Valerian can be used to improve the sleep quality and relax both the skeletal and smooth muscles. Valerian should not be used for those with chronic exhaustion, adrenal fatigue, thyroid disorders, and depression as it may increase anxiety, worsen present symptoms, and/or result in excessive restlessness in these conditions. Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) – a strong calming, anti-spasmodic herb that is useful for severe daytime anxiety. Passionflower is also a good choice for middle of the night waking terrors, nightmares, and the onset of sudden anxiety feelings. It acts as a central nervous system depressant giving a calming, relaxing and anti-anxiety effect and is specific for anxiety related to insomnia, muscle tension, restlessness, and nervousness due to worry, overwork, hysteria, or excessive excitement. If you are taking an MAO inhibitor, you should avoid taking passionflower except under supervision. Stress Relief Tea Here is a simple herbal tea mixture that I have found effective in my private practice working with women having mood and energy problems. Mix together equal parts of the following dry herbs: •Oatstraw •Lemon Balm •Skullcap •Nettles •Orange •Chamomile Use 1-2 teaspoons of the mixture and steep covered in 8 oz. of boiling water for 5-10 minutes. The use of herbal nervines as part of an integrative program can help restore a sense of calm and well being, soothe distress, stabilize a confused and overwhelmed energy system, and foster clear thinking. If you are taking anti-anxiety and/or anti-depressant medications or other medications, have a diagnosed condition or illness, are pregnant, breastfeeding, elderly or very young it is important to consult a knowledgeable health care practitioner before using herbs. Consult a licensed physician for diagnosis and treatment of any medical conditions. Copyright (c) 2007 Mary Ann Copson

The Best Acne Herbal Treatments by: Darren Brent

No matter your age, acne is a problem that no one wants. The misery of acne is mostly caused by our sebaceous glands producing too much sebum, also known as oil. Due to the over production of oil, the skin pores increase in blockage and bacterial areas. It is the bacteria and increased oil production that causes the acne to form. But natural acne herbal treatments are the first method to try. Knowing how acne happens is one thing, but knowing exactly why is a difficult task at hand when there are several various reasons as to pin pointing each case's cause. Some links believed to be connections are hormonal imbalances, overall eating habits, vitamin deficiency and contentious high levels of stress. Healthy eating habits and lowering stress is the first natural step of acne herbal treatment. There are proven statistics linking the higher level of vitamin A in a person's body shows to be able to lower acne breakouts. Vitamin A lowers the amount of sebum and keratin being produced. Zinc is also a very important vitamin, and for fighting acne, the Zinc is the backing force for the vitamin A to do its job. Natural acne treatments through diet of the most natural fruits and vegetables will help in your holistic being, not just acne. Some other acne herbal treatments are effectively proven and 100% natural acne remedies. Aloe Vera is one of the most effective natural herbal acne herbal treatments today. The Aloe Vera plant contains astringent and anti-bacterial properties which are known to fight bacteria that cause acne. Aloe Vera also contains very important anti-inflammatory properties needed in reducing acne swelling. Another very potent natural acne herbal treatment is Calendula. Although not as well known about, Calendula is a very effective acne treatment. Calendula is a skin tissue healer of potential damage from the acne. But Calendula is also a natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory completely natural product. Calendula comes in cream, or water base washing formula to cleanse the acne infected skin. The Lavender herb will help reduce the inflammation due to the acne and Lavender also has antiseptic. The Lavender is mixed with a carrier fluid or water should be applied directly to the affected acne areas for exterminating bacteria. Just as the Lavender herb, the Tree Essential Oil must be with water or carrier fluid.
